Windows 10 version 20H2 - Known Issues and Problems

Windows 10, version 20H2, rollout has started in a phased manner. In this post, we will take a look at some of the known issues and problems with this build.

Issues and Problems in Windows 10 v 20H2

Now, like most updates for Windows 10, there are known issues each user should be aware of before downloading and installing. In this article, we will talk about some of the issues that everyone should know about before taking the plunge.

According to Microsoft, some of these problems might be resolved, but for some users, things might still be the same.

  1. Problems when using Microsoft IME for Japanese or Chinese languages
  2. Errors affecting certain devices with Conexant or Synaptics audio drivers
  3. Errors affecting certain devices with Conexant ISST audio drivers
  4. Problems with incorrectly formatted third-party drivers

Let us discuss these problems in more detail.

1] Problems when using Microsoft IME for Japanese or Chinese languages

If you're a user of the Microsoft IME for Japanese or Chinese languages may have issues when attempting to complete various tasks. For example, when inputting data, things might not work as intended.

This issue affected both the regular Windows 10 and the Server version, so keep an eye out for that.

2] Errors affecting certain devices with Conexant or Synaptics audio drivers

If you have a computer device with Conexant or Synaptics audio drivers, then there is a high chance Windows 10, version 20H2, will cause a few problems that may become too annoying to live with.

From our understanding, folks may experience a stop error that shows a blue screen. This is primarily due to incompatibility. If you navigate to Sound, video, and game controllers in Device Manager, you should see the affected driver named Conexant HDAudio Driver.

As for the driver version, it should be along the lines of 8.65.47.53, 8.65.56.51, or 8.66.0.0 through 8.66.89.00 for chdrt64.sys or chdrt32.sys.

At the moment, both Microsoft and Synaptics are working on a fix, which will be made available in the upcoming release.

Microsoft recommends refraining from updating your Windows 10 computer until the problem has been rectified.

3] Errors affecting certain devices with Conexant ISST audio drivers

Some users may have a Windows 10 computer system with Conexant ISST audio drivers. If this is indeed the case, then be prepared for possible problems if you're installing version 20H2.

The name of the driver is Conexant ISST Audio or Conexant HDAudio Driver and can be located under Sound, video and game controllers in Device Manager.

From our understanding, the file name is uci64a96.dll through uci64a231.dll, and the version sits at 7.231.3.0.

The best option to take right now is to contact the driver vendor, request an update, and be sure not to update your system to Windows 10, version 20H2 until the problem is fixed.

4] Problems with incorrectly formatted third-party drivers

Should there come a time when you must install third-party drivers, then we suggest being vigilant because errors may appear. You see, the new update triggers an error called “Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software” when installing these types of drivers.

We understand that if anyone comes across this problem, their best bet is to contact the driver vendor and request an update because Microsoft can do nothing about it.
