Chameleon Run Malwarebytes on an Infected System

A day ago, we reviewed Malwarebytes Anti-malware software which helps in protecting your system from malicious infections. But sometimes, malware may block antivirus software from being installed or if installed, from being run. Such malicious programs are really very resistant to Anti-malware tools as such. As a solution to this, Malwarebytes offers Chameleon. The software helps to install, start, or update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, if it has been blocked by an infection. The program fights back against malware that tries to block Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from doing its job and kills any malicious processes that it finds .

Malwarebytes Chameleon

All up-to-date versions of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware include Chameleon built-into the program.  If, for some reason user is experiencing some compatibility issues inAnti-Malware installation, Chameleon can be downloaded as a stand-alone product and then be used for installing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Here's how to use Chameleon on its own:

First, go to Malwarebytes.org and select the 'Other Tools' option from the 'For Home' Menu.

Next, select the option for Chameleon as shown in the screen-shot below and download the ZIP.

Then, unzip the contents and you should probably see a window like the one below.

Click on the 'Chameleon file to open up the interface and help you get started.

First off, click the first button as shown in the screen-shot and see if it runs. If not, click down the line of install attempts until you find one that works! The purpose of this practice is to try starting Chameleon from different angles to avoid a single executable being blocked.

An MS-DOS window should be visible to you, if Chameleon successfully starts up. It prompts you to press any key to continue. When you do so, Chameleon starts downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for you.

After downloading it, it will try to update the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware definitions.

Then, once your Anti-Malware is up-to-date, it starts killing any malicious processes that prevent Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from running.

Next, it starts up the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware interface and asks you to run a Quick Scan and remove the malware.
